Ron grew up in Springsure, Queensland, Australia. While attending school he was given a lot of problem horses to ride, and competed in pony club and show jumping.
After school he attended Emerald Agricultural College, and then he headed north for work on large cattle stations, always with horses to ride. The last of the stations he worked on was Millungera Station near Julia Creek, where he was head stockman for 14 years. Where he met his wife Jodie, and they have two children DJ and Danielle.
Ron competes at both Campdrafts and Challenges, where he has had some success. For the last 10 years Ron has conducted Horse clinics across Queensland, The Northern Territory and the top end of Western Australia. Ron does 6 day breaking in and 2-3 day Horsemanship and Campdrafting clinics.
Ron breaks in 80-100 horses a year. Ron and his family now live at Cecil Plains, where they breed and train their own horses, and from their Ron still travels to do his clinics.
